Hydrodermabrasion in Richmond | Open House Skin
Personalised hydrodermabrasion in Richmond, Melbourne for smoother, clearer, more hydrated skin. Begin with a consultation-led bespoke facial.
If your skin feels dull, rough or clogged - but strong exfoliation leaves it tight and uncomfortable - hydradermabrasion offers a gentler way to resurface and smooth texture.
The treatment combines controlled exfoliation and suction with a serum selected for your skin, helping to remove dead skin buildup and replenish hydration. The result is skin that feels smoother, fresher and cleaner while being tailored to suit your skin concerns.
At Open House Skin, hydrodermabrasion is not delivered as the same fixed facial to every person - it’s one of many tools that we may select in your bespoke treatment after assessing your skin.

Hydrodermabrasion at a glance:
What is it:
Our Hydrapro+ device uses a rotating tip that gently buffs the surface of the skin to instantly smooth, suction to dislodge debris, and a serum selected for your skin to replenish and elevate.
May improve the appearance of:
Dullness, rough surface texture, mild congestion and blackheads, mild dehydration. Skin needing a quick pick me up or instant glow.
Expected downtime / recovery time:
Minimal to none. Some mild pinkness is common, acne-prone skin may experience a small purge of breakouts.
How it is offered:
As part of our customized facial framework - not a fixed one-size-fits-all protocol.
New clients:
Start with the Housewarming Facial for consultation, skin analysis and tailored treatment. 75 min - $189.
Location:
U3, 176-178 Lennox St, Richmond. Available by appointment, 10am-8pm Tuesday to Saturday.
Suitability is assessed at your appointment. If hydrodermabrasion is not the most appropriate option for your skin on the day, your facial will be adjusted rather than forcing your skin to fit a particular device.
When your skin feels dry and congested at the same time
Congestion does not always mean your skin needs to be scrubbed, stripped or dried out.
It is common for skin to feel bumpy or clogged while also feeling dehydrated, tight or easily irritated. Repeatedly reaching for stronger acids, scrubs or drying products may remove some surface build-up temporarily, but it can also make an already uncomfortable routine harder for your skin to tolerate.
Hydrodermabrasion allows us to approach both concerns together: gently lifting loose surface cells and debris while using a tailored serum to support a more hydrated finish.
The important part is deciding whether that is what your skin actually needs. If another form of exfoliation - or no exfoliation at all - would be more appropriate, we will adjust your facial accordingly.
Which is better? Hydrodermabrasion, Microdermabrasion or a Chemical Peel?
Hydrodermabrasion, also commonly written as hydradermabrasion or hydro dermabrasion (popularized by the brand Hydrafacial), is a non-invasive facial treatment that combines fluid-based exfoliation, controlled suction and serum infusion.
As the treatment tip moves across the skin, it helps loosen and collect superficial build-up while bathing the skin in a selected solution.
Compared with traditional microdermabrasion, which is performed as a dry mechanical exfoliation, hydrodermabrasion places greater emphasis on maintaining hydration throughout the resurfacing process.
Chemical peels use a selected acid or enzyme to create a more targeted level of resurfacing. Whilst it can achieve a greater degree of resurfacing - the effect occurs over 3-7 days, instead of the less intense but instant smoothing of hydroderm or microdermabrasion.
Each serves a different purpose, and the strongest treatment is not automatically the most beneficial. In your bespoke treatment, we will choose the approach that best suits your skin’s condition, goals and tolerance.
What can a hydrodermabrasion facial help with?
Hydrodermabrasion may be a useful option for:
dull or tired-looking skin
rough or uneven surface texture
dry, flaky surface build-up
dehydration
mild congestion and visible blackheads
skin that needs a fresh, smoother finish before an event
regular skin maintenance when more intensive resurfacing is not needed
It can create a visible freshening effect, but it is not a one-session cure for acne, pigmentation, scarring or every cause of enlarged-looking pores. When your concern needs a longer-term approach, we will explain what hydrodermabrasion can realistically contribute and what else may be needed.
Why hydrodermabrasion is different at Open House Skin
We assess your skin before choosing the treatment
You do not need to diagnose your own skin or arrive knowing exactly which machine to book. New clients begin with a thorough consultation and skin imaging so we can understand the condition in front of us, not simply follow a treatment trend.
It forms part of a completely bespoke facial
Hydrodermabrasion is a tool, not a complete skin plan. By offering it within our bespoke facial model, we can combine it with the right supporting steps rather than forcing every client through an identical protocol.
Your treatment can adapt as your skin changes
What benefitted your skin last month may not be what it needs today. Your facial is adjusted in real time according to sensitivity, congestion, hydration, current products, recent treatments and the results you are working towards.
One-on-one care in a private, inclusive clinic
Open House Skin is a private Richmond skin clinic created to offer luxurious, evidence-informed care without judgement or beauty-standard pressure. Every skin, shade, gender and story is welcome, and your comfort level remains part of the treatment decision.
When we tend to choose hydrodermabrasion
“I tend to choose hydrodermabrasion when I want to lift surface build-up without leaving the skin feeling overly stripped. If congestion is inflamed or the skin barrier is already reactive, I may choose a calmer treatment first. The device can be useful, but suitability matters more than the trend.” — Kai
Tailored to what your skin needs
Depending on your skin, your hydrodermabrasion treatment may use a hydrating, brightening or decongesting serum. It can also be combined with complementary inclusions such as extractions, LED, ultrasound infusion, a mask or massage when appropriate.
Is hydrodermabrasion right for you?
It may suit you if you:
want smoother, fresher-looking skin with minimal expected downtime
experience both surface congestion and dehydration
prefer a gentler alternative to dry mechanical resurfacing
want a facial tailored around your skin rather than a fixed protocol
are preparing for an event and have allowed enough time to assess your response
want to maintain results between more targeted treatments
We may postpone hydrodermabrasion or choose another option if your skin is actively irritated, injured, infected, unusually reactive or experiencing a flare. Your health history, medications and recent treatments can also affect suitability, which is why every new client begins with a consultation.
Results and downtime: what is realistic?
After hydrodermabrasion, skin commonly feels softer, smoother and more hydrated, with a fresher-looking surface. Congested areas may appear clearer and makeup may sit more evenly once any temporary pinkness has settled.
Downtime is usually minimal, but “no downtime” should never be treated as a guarantee. Mild redness, sensitivity, tightness or a small breakout can occur after almost any facial, particularly when your skin is already reactive or the treatment is new to you.
If you have an important event, leave a sensible buffer before it - especially for your first time having hydrodermabrasion. For longer-term concerns, the best results usually come from treating the underlying factors consistently rather than expecting one facial to do everything.

Kai’s approach brings together evidence-informed treatment decisions, hands-on experience across Australia and Asia, and the understanding that healthy skin care should feel collaborative - not confusing, judgemental or inaccessible.

He really listened to what I wanted and made me feel completely comfortable and cared for. The treatment was deeply relaxing, and I felt genuinely special from start to finish. FAQ’s:
-
Both spellings are used for the same general treatment category. “Hydrodermabrasion” is the spelling used most often on this page, while you may also see clinics refer to a hydradermabrasion facial or hydro dermabrasion
-
HydraFacial is a trademarked brand and device that performs its own branded form of hydrodermabrasion. Hydrodermabrasion is the broader treatment category. Open House Skin offers personalised hydrodermabrasion within our bespoke facial menu; we do not use the branded HydraFacial service.
-
Most people find it comfortable. You will generally feel light suction and cool fluid moving across the skin. The treatment can be adjusted or stopped if an area feels uncomfortable.
-
Downtime is generally minimal. Some people may experience temporary pinkness, sensitivity, tightness or an occasional breakout, depending on their skin and the other inclusions used during the facial. As per any clinical exfoliation, we’ll ask you to avoid active ingredients and other exfoliants for 3-5 days and stay out of direct UV exposure post treatment.
-
It may help remove superficial build-up and improve mild congestion or visible blackheads, but acne is more complex than blocked pores alone. Inflamed, sensitised or recurring acne needs a broader assessment so we can decide whether hydrodermabrasion, another treatment or barrier support is the most appropriate place to start.
-
Its fluid-based approach can be gentler than dry resurfacing for some people, but “gentle” does not mean universally suitable. If your skin is actively reactive or experiencing a flare, we may modify the treatment or choose a soothing, non-exfoliating approach instead.
-
Depending on your skin thickness and the treatment intensity - every 1-2 weeks.
However, there is no single schedule that suits every skin. It may be used occasionally for a freshen-up, regularly as part of skin maintenance or strategically within a broader treatment plan. We will recommend frequency according to your concern, response, budget and other treatments.
-
Hydrodermabrasion is delivered as an inclusion within Open House Skin’s bespoke facials. New clients book The Housewarming Facial; returning clients choose their preferred Bespoke Facial duration or hydrodermabrasion as an express standalone treatment.
-
If you have never had the treatment before, allow at least a week between your appointment and the event in case your skin responds unexpectedly.
